Carpenter Ant Control

Carpenter ants are one of the most destructive insects that may invade your St. Louis home. These ants do as much damage to your wood as termites, destroying the wood in your walls, flooring and ceilings as they excavate living quarters for their nests. The key to getting rid of carpenter ants is double sided: you must remove the nest and prevent them from returning.

Identifying the Problem

Carpenter ants include winged males which are the easiest to identify, as well as the queen, major workers and minor workers. Carpenter ants are large in size, measuring 1/2" or more in length, have bent antennae and are black in color.

Unlike termites which leave frass, a sawdust like material, carpenter ants leave little debris in their living quarters. Also unlike termites, you will find carpenter ants out in the open in your home, searching for food and water and leaving scent trails for other ants to follow.

Carpenter Ant Damage

Carpenter ants live in large colonies and prefer to build their nests in damp wood. Their excavation activities leave honeycomb-like damage in wood, weakening it to the point where it can no longer bear weight. This can cause serious structural damage to your home.
